Between the Vines

An exploration of the wonderful place where beer and wine intersect.

Every year in wine-making season we are excited to get our hands on spent grapes from local wineries, most notably the award-winning Gutter & Stars in Cambridge. These are grapes that have been carefully sourced by the winemaker from an English vineyard and then pressed to make wine. We collect the pressed grapes and put carefully selected aged and blended beer onto them to condition. The result can perhaps best be described as a grape-contact beer, producing delicate beers that bring everything you'd expect from an aged Pastore wild ale (gentle acidity and mellow funk) together with fruity grape notes typical of wine.

Every year we produce a red (Rosso), typically made using Pinot Noir skins, a white (Bianco), usually made with Chardonnay skins, and some 'specials', often with addition of fresh fruit. These are truly 'frizzante' table beer-wines, inspired by funky pet-nats and fizzy Lambrusco from our family's home region of Emilia-Romagna, made to be shared on long sunny afternoons with friends and family.
